FAQs

Your tyre air pressures should be checked at least once a month, using an accurate tyre pressure gauge. Remember that the pressure check should be carried out when the tyres are cold i.e. when the vehicle has been stationary for at least three hours.
The DOT code (US Department Of Transportation) is a 7 to 13 character code that is required by law and is usually printed in smaller letters near the tyre bead (where the tyre meets the rim). Its first letters are DOT, which stands for 'Department of Transportation' and indicates that the government agency has approved the tyre. The last four numbers of the DOT code are often the most useful for car owners because they indicate the age of the tyre. The first two digits of the last four numbers indicate the week in which the tyre was produced and the last two the year. For example, a tyre with a DOT code 1119 was produced in the eleventh week of 2019. This information is important as the performance and safety of a tyre decreases with age, even if the tyre is not used, due to chemical breakdown. Other information included in the DOT code is the place of manufacture, the size and type of tyre.
Winter tyres are identified by the M+S marking on the sidewall, accompanied by a symbol of a mountain with a snowflake inside. Generally, the M+S marking alone is sufficient to identify a winter tyre, but the tyre industry has adopted the Snowflake marking to differentiate true winter products from the All-season products that only bear the M+S marking.
To check if a Pirelli tyre uses RUN FLAT technology before your purchase, visit Pirelli.com to verify by searching for your specific product. After purchasing the tyre, you will be able to find the RUN FLAT marking on the outside/inside shoulder of the tyre.
We recommend that you always maintian your tyre pressures as indicated on the inside of the driver's car door. If you don't find any labels with tyre pressure indications, please refer to your vehicle manual.
As with other tyres, RUN FLAT tyres require regular maintenance of internal pressures in order to achieve maximum tyre performance. We always recommended following your vehicle's handbook to find out the maxmium pressure limit suitable for your tyres.

The idea of the capital letter stretching horizontally to cover the other letters that make up the name was imagined in New York on a day back in 1908. It was a spur of the moment stunt, due to a request of a representative Pirelli had on site”. Read the full story here.
